Faith –
“I am longing to see you...so that we may be mutually encouraged
by each other’s faith, both yours and mine.” Romans 1: 11-12
Sunday Morning Youth is a faith-based program. Children
develop their faith through Bible stories, activities, and music.
|
Each gathering of the youth group(s)
includes a faith element where the youth can learn about faith
and share their faith with each other. |

Friends –
“For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”
Matthew 18:20
|
|
It is hard for youth to grow in their faith
when surrounded by others who do not share it. Youth group is a time to be
surrounded by others who believe the same, struggle with the same issues and ask
the same questions. It is a safe place to grow surrounded by supportive
friends. |

Fun –
“Then shall the young women
rejoice in the dance, and the young men and
the old shall be merry.” Jeremiah 31:1

What would youth
group be without fun? Surrounded by friends, anything can turn
to giggles. Yearly events include car washes, volleyball
tournaments, the Bible-Read-a-thon, bowling, games nights, pool
parties, Hallowe’en parties, retreats, and much more! |

Six senior
youth and I were excited to go on a Presbytery sponsored trip to Cape Breton
in July. What an amazing trip! There were 20 youth and 9 adults from 4
churches on the trip. We travelled by bus to North Sydney, Nova Scotia where
we ran a Vacation Bible School. We also had the opportunity to visit other
Presbyterian churches (where we often sang for our supper!), Camp Geddie,
and Camp McLeod. We were treated to some side trips as well--- a miner's
tour, sailing and a traditional Ceilidh. I was incredibly impressed with our
youth's commitment before, during and after the trip. There were quite a few
team building and fundraising events before the trip and upon our return we
lead the service at four Presbyterian congregations where we had the
opportunity to share our experiences. A very big thank you to all who helped
with this trip. Your financial assistance, encouragement and prayers were
greatly appreciated!
It is
personally gratifying seeing the faith development with our senior youth. As
I went into my third year at Chalmers I had to see some of the seniors head
off into the work force, begin their post secondary work here or move away
to attend college or university. Some have been back to visit with their
willingness to give of their talents of leadership and mentoring skills.
Their presence is always appreciated. The present senior youth are always
willing to help their younger counterparts and that giving of themselves is
also extremely valued.
2009 will prove
to' be an exciting year as we make our plans to attend the Canada Youth
conference this summer in St. Catherine's. We are anticipating 15-20 youth,
young adults and adult" advisors to attend. Thank you for supporting our
many fundraising efforts. We will value your prayers and encouragement as we
move forward with our plans.
A very big thank
you to Rev. John, the Youth Ministry Team, the many parent volunteers and
wonderful members of our congregation for making our youth programs a vital
ministry at Chalmers!
